What is Heroes & Other Worlds?

Heroes & Other Worlds is a game of adventure inspired by Metagaming's classic Melee/Wizard/TFT system combined with inspiration from the Moldvay edited basic game. The rules are easy to learn and use standard six sided dice. The system is simple, sensible and flexible in the spirit of classic role playing games from the early 80's. Become a Hero, Other Worlds await!

Dwarf-Land

Paul, by way of Scott at the (for) now defunct Huge Ruined Pile blog, has posted a wonderful map of DWARF-LAND. This map was drawn by the fantastic Mr. Russ Nicholson! (yes THAT Russ Nicholson!)

So while my Saltbox idea was not as successful as I had hoped, perhaps with this Dwarf Lands map...and some sort of numbered hex overlay...a fantastic and massive crowd sourced HOW sandbox might be possible?  Go to Paul's site, get the map and give it some thought.

Anyone want to take a stab at dropping a numbered hex overlay on it?  This could be quite an exciting undertaking...

 1. That is a beautiful map and a very interesting looking place to visit. It's rather large though. I'm not sure a numbered hex-grid is the best approach. All of the locales have clear labels, names, and borders. I would throw an un-numbered hex-grid on it. Then create a skeletal framework for encounters by named terrain/locale. Each town/city/castle could also have it's own set of tables regarding rumors, current events, activities, encounters, and opportunities. Filling in those encounter and settlement tables would be quite a lot of work for one dud, I mean dude like me :)

 2. I resized the original map/image a bit in GIMP so it wouldn't choke mspaint or paint.net. Went from something like 19800x15000 image to 5476x3894 without any clear loss of detail. Then I threw a transparent red hex-grid on it. If you want it, email me. It's a 4.6mb file though. Hope your email will allow that size attachment.
