Heroes & Other Worlds is a game of adventure inspired by Metagaming's classic Melee/Wizard/TFT system combined with inspiration from the Moldvay edited basic game. The rules are easy to learn and use standard six sided dice. The system is simple, sensible and flexible in the spirit of classic role playing games from the early 80's.Become a Hero, Other Worlds await!

Spell Choices
As I put together the Magi Carta, I'd like your feedback on which spell description you prefer.
Option A, just the text
Option B uses a grey box over the spell description to differentiate it.
Nearly 600 spells to reference...so choose wisely!
If you want to print a page, any kind of grey background would be a toner-waster. If you want a specific line of text to stand out, I'd use italics or underline for the sentence.
Thanks for the Feedback, sans gray spell description blocks it is! I may use a bit larger font (12pt) for the Spell title and adjacent info.
Second, I have decided to make PDF's artless going forward with new releases which will also make them cheaper to you and cheaper to print. The print versions will be the full monty art included products. This way if you want a PDF copy and a physical copy it will be a cheaper bundle for you.
I bought your ready print book. the content is a nice change to TFT. Heres my comments. Please consider changing your bolded font face. The bolded font face is too thick and the letters run into and touch each other. This creates slight stress on the eye. This is easy to see for example in your most recent post above where the words BURNING HANDS are bolded.
Another suggestion: try to find an alternative to your bitmap pictures inserted. Compare the table on page 82 under WHAT IS FOUND. The actual LULU hard copy for that table is grainy bitmap. Now compare this to a similar chart on page 58 listed under special creature effects.
Final suggestion, and I may have missed it somewhere: the publication needs an index and and maybe a glossary of important terms. Just a thought.
So here's the question. I looked down the list and couldnt find a healing spell. I found the IQ:14 reverse death spell, but you have to be dead first. What do you suggest?
There is also the IQ10 spell Healing Touch. Note the upcoming Magi Carta will be full of the standard cleric spells found in OGL products. There will be an index as well with an alphabetized list of all the spells in the Magi Carta at the back of the book.
I prefer option A. Greyed text works well for tables, but I don't personally like it for block text.
ReplyDeleteOption A for me. The grey box text is going to make the whole work seem messy.
ReplyDeleteOption A. Lee is right about the gray boxes only working in bounded tables.
ReplyDeleteI think Option A works best.
ReplyDeleteI like B on a screen, but for print purposes, I'll agree with everyone else.
ReplyDeleteA for me too!
ReplyDeleteOption A!

Over 600 spells...that's just crazy.

Sick as a dog but the work continues...
feel better. I bought the physical print copy. Let me know when its time to get the pdf. Can you make it searchable?

Nice Job. Pardon My typos.
Great feedback Joel, all suggestions and feedback on how to improve are very much appreciated!

ReplyDeleteTo create a cleric you suggest:
Cleric (W): weapons skills, healing/protection spells, naturalist, lore, scholar, diplomacy, physiker, literacy.
