What is Heroes & Other Worlds?

Heroes & Other Worlds is a game of adventure inspired by Metagaming's classic Melee/Wizard/TFT system combined with inspiration from the Moldvay edited basic game. The rules are easy to learn and use standard six sided dice. The system is simple, sensible and flexible in the spirit of classic role playing games from the early 80's. Become a Hero, Other Worlds await!

Closer now...

The Treasure section is complete and the creature section is 99.99% done as well.  Why not done already? Becuase I have added a couple more creatures since the 325 creature notice and will add another couple more like Cthuloids and Scarecrows before calling it done.

Again I wish (too) I would STOP adding creatures but I really want to give you your money's worth along with giving you what I want personally as a referee.

Now I am in the process of on editing the whole book and adding the TR (treasure rating) to each creature.

I expect the softcover book to be a $29.99 MSRP book and the artless PDF at $22. Expensive? Yes, but I think between the cornucopia of creatures and treasure listings all in one book at over 300 pages it's money well spent if you are a HOW fan or a fan of the old TFT system or want to convert d20 adventures and stuff into the HOW system. It's a good gaming resource and one I hope you will like.

The work continues...

  1. the printed version is actually cheaper than i was expecting. if the bus has to stop to pick up more monsters, i don't mind waiting. however, i guess i need to delete my mental musing that 325 (3+2+5) = perfect 10!

has there ever been a 'monster manual' for TFT or its offspring? correct me if i'm wrong, but...you are making history, buddy!

    1. Well despite it not numerically equaling a 10 any longer, I hope it rates a solid 7.5 out of 10 when comeplte!

The Inside the Labyrinth book for TFT had creatures and some treasures in it, and GURPS has had an assortment of such books...but nothing quite like this in the more traditional d20 style of a monster manual.

Its been quite of a project to finish personally and I will be happy to quit posting updates on progress and instead just deliver this beast into the wild!

Thanks for all the patience and continued support!

  3. now that i'm through marveling at your accomplishment, i have some questions about the formats...

will buying the printed $29 version give me access to the artless PDF version? or would i have to buy both if i want an electronic copy? any chance there can be a 'with art' PDF version for $29?

    1. HI Reaper--currently I am finishing up the Monsters & Treasures book. A revised rules book is on my "to do" list but this current work is not that.

  5. Thank you for the expedient reply. I missed The Fantasy Trip the first time around, at the time I was enamored of D&D and AD&D and was completely new to the hobby. I've ordered a print copy of H&OW from LuLu and eagerly await the delivery. I don't suppose you provide gratis .pdfs for books we physically purchase? Other companies do so but as you're enterprise is modest in size I can't expect you to do likewise.
