What is Heroes & Other Worlds?

Heroes & Other Worlds is a game of adventure inspired by Metagaming's classic Melee/Wizard/TFT system combined with inspiration from the Moldvay edited basic game. The rules are easy to learn and use standard six sided dice. The system is simple, sensible and flexible in the spirit of classic role playing games from the early 80's. Become a Hero, Other Worlds await!

Cauldron 2 coming

My lovely wife has finished the cover for the upcoming issue of Cauldron.  At this point April seems like the month this one will be coming out--looking forward to making it happen!  In addition I have commissioned the extremely talented Luigi Castellani for new illustrations for upcoming HOW projects.

After Cauldron comes revised rules--then its a coin flip for Grim Venture or Blades & Black Magic. Also Lars Dangly is working on a very cool original adventure for HOW and wrote an incredibly detailed (and very kind) review of HOW.

In addition Tim Knight continues to post original ideas, rules options, and a great look at his Tuesday Kinght's adventures on the Google+ site. As a person always looking for new twists and ideas these are great reads and inspiring!

As always, I really appreicate and am thankful for your patience and support!

  1. Thank you for the kind words about my ramblings. As much as anything I want to create a buzz around HOW to get more people playing it, taking the rules for a test drive, and coming up with their own tweaks and adventures.

As I said the other day my vote would be for Blades & Black Magic over Grim Venture, but any new HOW material is always welcome ;)

    1. Thanks very much Tim for all the creativity and support! I really appreciate it and love reading the after action sessions and tweaks/ideas!

I have no illusions that HOW will somehow become a favorite game for the masses. I don't write and take time to do this for fame, popularity, and certainly not wealth. It's the game I like to play and I feel pretty lucky to think some other folks, despite its imperfections, enjoy playing it too and even creating new bits and ideas for it. Now that is really cool in my book!

  2. I was thinking I would send some of my materials to you as they get finished in the coming week or so to see if you are interested in either posting them in your dropbox folder or using them in some other way.

    1. Hi Lars! Thanks again for the great review. It was very detailed and I appreciate your taking time to discuss and review the game in detail!

Again, I am REALLY looking forward to seeing your manuscript work! While I am again traveling next week on business, I am really looking forward to getting a chance to read over your work!!
